I draw from a range of fields like philosophy, ecology, psychoanalysis, sociology, critical theory, STS and other allied fields to understand, critique and theorize problems which bother me and affects society at large. My target is to write daily. Sometimes finished pieces of work or just a bunch of thoughts that occur to me when I read some papers or books.
Why do I write? I am fortunate that some thinkers have responded to this question of writing in ways that resonate with me:
B: But why, then, do you write?
A: Well, my friend, I say this in confidence: until now I have found no other means of getting rid of my thoughts.
B: And why do you want to get rid of them?
A: Why do I want to? Do I want to? I have to.
— Friedrich Nietzsche, The Gay Science
“I don’t say the things because I think them; I say the things so as to no longer think them.”
— Michel Foucault
“Why should I care that no one reads what I write? I write to forget about life, and I publish because that’s one of the rules of the game.”
— Fernando Pessoa, The Book of Disquiet
“What I am writing here is not my teaching; it is my study. It is not others’ lesson; it is mine. Still, it should not be held against me if I publish it. What helps me may happen to help someone else.”
– Michel de Montaigne
“Everything that needs to be said has already been said. But since no one was listening, everything must be said again.”
– Andre Gide
